Exclamation  Road safety and local traffic

From the sketches provided so far we expect to see our famous xmas tree spot taken over by another petrol station. At the same end of Bridge street will be the main car park access. The car park looks to take over the grass area from Venture pub site to the Tweedie Hall at least. In my opinion this access plan will be a disaster for Linwood. The slip road from kashmir ave at the public park is already useless at peak times and that has to be just the locals.
Once Tesco shoppers manage to navigate across this badly planned junction into Bridge street they will cause congenstion to local traffic particuarly of course at the peak times. If you imagine the traffic problems going in and out of Asda when its busy you will have an idea of what to expect here.
I have heard it said that planning permission will not be given to access the car park from Kashmir ave at the existing entrance near Health centre. Why? Because its a main thoroughfare? If thats the case why cant they realise that Kashmir ave is part of Linwood road and the entire Phoenix retail park is accessed directly from this main thoroughfare.

Traffic lights at peak times on the kashmir/Health centre junction and reduce kashmir and Linwood road to 30mph and we have a much safer and community friendly access plan.

This development should leave us with safer roads rather than more dangerous ones.

RE: Road safety and local traffic

what about the SHell petrol station ? how long will it survive ? As Kasmir avenue is main road from Houston and parts of Linwood this should be the entrance to car park. i see the exit crossing the main bus route in Bridge st with perhaps traffic lights like at Asda  at Govan.

the car park at Asda at phoenix is badly planned with queues building up at busy times. But remember this is only Linwood.
some of the cars normally buying petrol in Linwood will be able to go to the new Morrisons in Johnstone.

i hope Tesco listen to the people of Linwood before giving us a concrete eyesore when we deserve something more modern and well designed.
the new Christmas tree can go in front of the library ,facing bridge st.  Maybe Tesco could pay for lights from trees and lamp posts.
LINWOOD DESERVES A BETTER FUTURE.

RE: Road safety and local traffic

I understand what you saying about the traffic but i dont see why you are worried about losing the famous xmas tree spot as if i remember right the xmas tree lay on the ground for about two or three weeks last year and the years before it hasnt had lights that work.  Its more embarrassing having it there in the first place if they arent going to do it right.  Maybe when everything is built we could have it in the new town square and  have the rest of the square decorated like johnstone.  i really do think that Tesco is going to be good for linwood, its going to create jobs and to be honest the linwood shopping centre the way it is at the moment looks like you are entering slums so anyone who is willing to money in and help fix it gets my vote

RE: Road safety and local traffic

Hi Tracey,
If you read some of my articles and/or comments on the Linwood Sucks web site on  the subject of the xmas tree you will see I am not worried about losing the famous xmas tree spot;-) Every year as long as I can remember that xmas tree has been more pathetic than the year before and for me it has been very symbolic of Linwood as a whole. In a town with no bank and almost no shops the tree has been the least of my concerns.
I simply used the xmas tree as a reference point so everyone understands the planned location of the Tesco petrol station. Not everyone can make sense of the first sketches.

What I am not sure about is having a petrol station on bridge street and the first thing to be seen as you enter Linwood. The Tesco project can only be good for Linwood and we should take advantage of this opportunity to give real input to the layout etc.
